Stand up for EU nationals in Britain:
A celebration

Authors and comedians are to join forces at a gala evening in London to celebrate the contribution of Europeans to UK.

Stand up for EU nationals in Britain: A Celebration will take place at Conway Hall, Holborn, on Wednesday 29th March.

The night will look at the huge economic, cultural and social contribution EU nationals have made to the UK and make it clear that those who have made it their home are always welcome here.

Political writers and researchers will highlight the benefits of migration to the UK — and top comedy talent will throw a satirical eye on Brexit Britain.

Confirmed speakers so far include Ian Dunt, author Brexit: What the Hell Happens Now? and comedians Grainne Maguire, Sindhu Vee and Shazia Mirza, plus an EU citizen talking about their experience of Brexit.

Tickets are on sale, for £18, £12 and £8 (concessions).

The organisers are Canbury Press, publishers of Ian Dunt’s book, and Conway Hall, home of the Ethical Society.

Profits will go to the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants, which campaigns for justice in immigration and asylum law.

Martin Hickman, managing director of Canbury Press, said: “Whichever way you voted in the referendum, it’s clear that Brexit has left many EU nationals in Britain feeling hurt and confused, as well as anxious about their legal status.

“From pulling out potatoes to putting in bathrooms, and from directing operas to performing heart surgery, EU nationals play a vital role in our national life.

“We want to publicly acknowledge that contribution and to say thank you. British people and EU nationals are welcome.”

Jim Walsh, CEO of Conway Hall, said: “In a climate of uncertainty and changes ricocheting across society, it is imperative that we find a way to understand what is at stake. So, let’s listen, learn, and laugh as we celebrate just how much of a role EU nationals play in the UK.”
