Canbury launches crowdfunding campaign for immigrants book

Canbury Press has launched a crowdfunding appeal for a book praising the positive contribution of immigrants to the UK.
Canbury Press is seeking £4,500 in the campaign, launched today on Unbound.com, to support 99 Immigrants Who Made Britain Great.
The book, by authors Louis Stewart and Naomi Kenyon, tells the stories of people from abroad who made a lasting contribution to Britain.
They include Michael Marks who co-founded Marks & Spencer after fleeing pogroms in Russia – and Olympic athlete Mo Farah, who arrived from Somalia aged eight with only a few words of English.
Others are the designer of the Mini, Alec Issigonis, Henry Wellcome, who endowed British science, and the children’s author Judith Kerr.
The project aims change attitudes towards immigrants in the UK and follows the success of other illustrated books featuring previously unheralded individuals, such as Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls.
Martin Hickman, MD of Canbury Press, said: “99 Immigrants Who Made Britain Great is a counter-blast to a warped debate about immigration which ignores the contribution of people from abroad to our arts, culture and economy.
“I believe it could become a hit in UK bookshops, who have shown time and again that they back titles with progressive values. I appeal to anyone who shares these values to be a midwife to this book.
"Everyone who backs the project gets a copy of the book and pledges start at £10 for the ebook and £20 for the hardback."
