Canbury Press awarded grant from the Culture Recovery Fund

Some exciting news: today Canbury Press has been awarded a grant of £56,000 from Arts Council England, as part of its Culture Recovery Fund. The grant is designed to help businesses affected by Covid-19.
We will use our allocation to promote our titles to new audiences, invest in our subscription scheme, and commission new writers and illustrators for our forward programme. We will also make use of the Covid work placement scheme announced by the Chancellor to give opportunities to young people aged 16 to 24 on Universal Credit.
Canbury’s Publisher Martin Hickman said: ‘We’re thrilled that Arts Council England has given us this grant. Unlike big corporates, small presses don’t have deep pockets or big backlists that can keep a publisher going through tough times. This grant is also a vote of confidence in our mission to focus on under-reported issues such as mental health, the environment and technology. Giving opportunities to debut writers and diversity and inclusivity are important to us. We have worked to improve the public perception of immigration in Britain by crowdfunding the publication of 99 Immigrants Who Made Britain Great (October 2020), and we’re also looking forward to publishing Redface in February 2021, one man’s account of living with Social Anxiety Disorder.
